Psalm 37:1-7 English Standard Version He Will Not Forsake His Saints [a] Of David. 37 Fret not yourself because of evildoers; be not envious of wrongdoers! 2 For they will soon fade like the grass and wither like the green herb. 3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.[b] 4 Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. 6 He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday. 7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices! The Book of Psalms is made up of 150 chapters. In general, a psalm is a sacred song or poem used in worship. So, let’s use a psalm today to worship our Lord!!! AMEN David wrote nearly half of them. The thing I love about David is that God Himself says that David was a man after His own heart. That gives you and me hope to one day stand in God’s presence anointed by the blood of Jesus Christ!!! AMEN
Turn with me to Psalm 37 Psalm 37 is a timeless reminder that though the wicked may seem to prosper, divine justice is inevitable. It reassures the faithful to remain patient, righteous, and deeply rooted in trust towards God. This psalm encourages believers to live out their faith fearlessly, reassured by God's providential care and His ultimate justice. In the first 7 verses we see 1 negative and 4 positives. Verse 1 interesting the word fret here means to burn or to get heated. Davids’s advice was to cool down and keep cool. We look at that word fret in a worry kind of a way. We fret about this and that when we should just trust the Lord. Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Oh boy how true is that? Don’t worry about what the evildoers are getting away with or receiving, their due time is coming. Stop comparing you with them. Just be you and do you in the Lord!!!! Verse 2 you can find the exact same analogy in 1 Peter 1:24/25 for All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, 25 but the word of the Lord remains forever.” And this word is the good news that was preached to you. The evil doer time is coming. Stop fretting that they have more than you or going more places or whatever, you have Jesus, they don’t. Do the math. You have heaven, they have hell. Now with that in mind, what can we do for the evil doer? Let’s try and show them what we have, lets give them Jesus. We all know that is what they need. Verse 3 trust in the Lord and do good. Now you know why we shouldn’t be doing evil. Because the Lord tells us not to, do good my friend. There are so many things that we can be doing, that sometimes we simply just don’t do. In this verse David was telling the Israelites to stay in their land and not to leave it. God didn’t make a mistake. We should do the same. Trust God in whatever situation He has us in. Befriend faithfulness. That is way better than some of us who have befriended everything except faithfulness. We have befriended, alcohol, drugs, sex outside of marriage, lying, covetness and whatever else the Lord has told you and me to stay away from. When we study the Word and apply the Word to our lives, our lives begin to change. I know, because God has changed my life, just like I would hope the majority of yall lives have been changed as well. Verse 4 This is one of my favorite verses. When we delight in the Lord, He gives us the desires of our heart. The word delight means to please someone greatly. Oh wow, do I want to please the Lord. You know for 27 years of my life; I never pleased the Lord. I have served the devil longer than I have served Jesus. I am not happy to say that. But it’s a fact that I cannot deny. My desires today PTL are not even remotely close to what my desires of yesteryear was. I use to desire to seek only what was beneficial for myself. Today, I want to help others, I want to share with others, I want people to see Jesus Christ living in me and through me. *****Alex and Kraig story**** at Grace If you don’t like your desires today, then guess who can change them? And as you grow, I believe I can say that your desires change and grow as well. I give all the glory to God for changing who I was and I’m guessing you do the same. I know now today, that my blessings have come from Jesus. Nothing that I have done to deserve them or get them, but because of Christs faithfulness to His children. Don’t miss out on these blessings from Him. Don’t enjoy walking with the devil that you forget to lean on the Lord’s guidance and direction. Remember John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. Wouldn’t you rather enjoy God’s blessings rather than His wrath? Then make sure 100% that you belong to HIM. Verse 5 Commit your ways to Him and trust Him, He will act. Commit here means to pledge or bind to a certain course or policy. I have committed my life to Jesus Christ. I have trusted Him with 100% of my life. I use to keep just a little bit of my life back for me to take care of until I realized I was horrible at it, so I entrusted everything that I have to Jesus. King David is telling us to commit to Jesus. Its straight forward. If you don’t commit, then you are against. You can not be on the fence. It is one way or another. Verse 6/7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him. Psalms 46:10 also says Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations; I will be exalted in the earth! There is a lot more to this verse than we can cover this morning, but we are to be still and KNOW that He is God. He has this whatever you are going through in your life. Take comfort in knowing that He is God and that you and I are not!!! Amen Make a surrender to the Lord and be calm in it. Rest in Him. Be assured in Him. He has this. There is no surprises. He hasn’t forgotten anything, He is GOD. In fact, the Same God when David wrote this as the same God that I am telling you about right now. In closing, stop or don’t even start comparing yourselves with the rest of the world. You’re not better than anybody else, your just saved or have a relationship with Jesus if in fact that is what you have. The Smiths will have what the Smiths have. You will have what you have. You will do what God has for you to do. I think if we thought about all the things that you and I should be doing, we might not even recognize what the Smiths are doing or what they even have. We have enough on our plates. The evil and unjust will get what they have coming to them. You and I if we are righteous, by the way only by the blood of Jesus, we will receive what we have coming to us as well. Now if you are like me, you will not like the idea that somebody is going to go to hell. That hurts my heart. So, let’s do something about it. Let’s try and share with our unjust neighbor the goodness of Jesus and see if they will want to turn their lives from fretting to trusting, delighting, committing and resting in the Lord Jesus Christ? That sounds like what each of us in here ought to be doing from this day forward. Let us tell the world about Jesus. If we don’t, who is? Let us pray!!!!
